Internet archive is easier to find for ’90s-era gifs. Gofcices Contains millions of animations from decade flannel shirts and soups nazi. GIFs pulled out of old webpages to goocities, which (mostly) dust in 2009.
The new version of gifts is easier to find. You can now find semantically, based on the animation content. In other words, it is more likely to bring the subject or scene that you are looking for by describing it. In the old version of gifts, you can only find the file name. (If you feel masochistic, you can still access that version under a “Special Search” tab.)
Updated gifts now also used to invent. That’s a good thing, as the unlimited scrolling of the old version can make for slow browsing. You can also make and share “gifts.” As the name suggests, these are customs e-greetings made from old gifts.
The Internet Archive Launched gifcities in 2016 to celebrate the 20th anniversary. If you are young to know, goocities are the quintessential early internet web-hosting service. A social media top, it’s full of shameful fan pages, personal photo albums and “under construction” gifs. (You’ll find out a lot of the last on this search engine.) Yahoo took the plug on most goocities in 2009. saved for another decade.
If you’re at a certain age, you can enjoy Archive browsing. (Or, know what is passed for the funny on the internet before you are born!) Just note that NSFW’s many results. I have done the mistake of finding “Mr. T,” and I’ll leave you now to keep my eyes off.
