Retina damage to the back eye can lead to blindness

A retinal implant has a partly restored view of blind rats, suggesting that one day can benefit from a progressive loss of cells with sensitive cells from the retina.
Shuiyuan Wang In Fudan University in China and his companions designing a retinal prosthesis made by metal nanoparticles that can lead to lost retinals that can be sent to the brain through nerves.
In order to test prosthesis, the team injected with particles in retains of engineered rats to enhance nearly.
Researchers prevented access to water animals for three days, doing the same for rats with common perspective and blind rats without prosthesis. Next, they train all the mice to touch a 6-centimeter-wide circle on a screen if they want water.
After training, all rats have completed 40 attempts to test each other. The rats with complete visions are successful in pressure on the button 78 percent of the time. Those with implants succeeded 68 percent of the time, while unchanged rats in charge of it 27 percent of the time. “This is a clear effect,” as Patrick Degenaar In the Newcastle University in the UK, without participating in the study.
Two months later, researchers find fewer signs of dizziness in the eyes of the mice of implants, but it takes longer safety data, as Degenaar is required. “To get it at the clinic, you should do a long-term animal test for about five years,” he said.
“People who are aged with macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa can benefit from (the prosthetic),” as Leslie Askew At the University of Surrey, UK, not included in the study.
Degenaar said it was difficult to assert the way people who were aged with macular degeneration, because there was usually a level of view not at risk by imposing prostatich.
What else, rats have a lot of poor visions than people, so it is not clear how to benefit people until the clinical tests come true.
