I agree with Simon Sarley that some living obituaries raise our spirits (Letters, 24 June). As well as monthly monthly country diaries. It is very good to know that there are enthusiastic and watchful naturalists – and very good writers – generations come.

Of the dining room whole (22 June), Julian, 57, finds himself acting “right” while he or she gets older and pay more taxes. There is no shortage of it: I am 64 and more taxes I pay, the more I know the inconsistent, and move on.

Having your nose in a book is not always a good idea, Adrian Chiles (June 25). In 2002 a barcelona station, my husband left me to find the left luggage. When he returned, he asked where his rucksack was. This is a very good book.
