Fire departments can work with residents to maximize fire strength

In the editor: In this article, David Barrett, Executive Director of Los Angeles Regional Fire Slance Slance Slance, says, “no city has prevented the growth of the wind” (“Do personal fire devices help or hurt future wildfires ?,” July 15). But in many Altadena neighborhoods, the fire was hit and missed, leaving a burning of burnt houses. From my vantage point, the fire develops as a shower of embersos, the embersters starting with small fires who have always burned home – or not, especially when someone is to give it. The Minnesota case quoted in the article shows a 98% success rate for houses with compy splrinker systems left in the fire. A simpler approach for houses with a pool is a pump and fuel fire. Our setup is worth about $ 1,000. It put 120 gallons every minute and can completely pour our house and grounds.

I know the idea that keeping fighting with a fire is a problem that puts danger at risk is more powerful. It is obvious that staying fight is not for everyone, but some have a defense plan and try. Fire Departments could build on that willingness and boost Neighborhood resilience by coordinating with homeowners to access swimming pools for auxiliary water, advising that swimming pools be equipped with fire pumps, and encouraging level-headed, able owners and neighbors to Participate.
