Remember blank “Blue books” for getting exams? Well, they got back.
A company called Rooring Spring Play Products experiencing a “Blue Book” sale in educational institutions trying to use chatbots such as chatgpts for trials. Blank books are given at the beginning of the exam, and no screenshots, apps, or phones allowed. Company air shows the newest chapter of a long-term debate about the use of tools as a substitute for claiming the skills of reasoning and analysis.
When we were students in science and engineering in 1960, we became skilled with the use of devices called slide rules (the main calculators).
Soon, Smart calculators who can make complex calculations arise. That makes the solution of simple problems quickly, but for more complex calculations, framing them and knowing when and how to use these devices transfers the strategic Goutpost. In other words, the correct verification of the problem becomes real challenge. That’s a task for the brain, and the skill of using tools is no substitute.
The ability to use chatgpt or another chatbot skill is just a substitute for research, writing or analysis if all that matters is the answer. However, at school, it is considered cheating, officials and academics, because it prevents the gathering of students and skills to analyze students. In the work world, the arrival of an adequate solution can be sufficient for certain tasks. However how many people will be before being a chatgpt jock despite a whiz in Microsoft Word or Excel?
This evolution is almost a surprise, given non-recent educational trends. How and why anyone thinks of a student who does not respond that two and two equals the last example of a teacher’s tutor’s tutor in a teacher. Even if there is nothing wrong with this basic character to go out from Chatgpt, because it challenges with more complex tasks, the students can now find out and correct mistakes made?
That may not be able to do us now. Then, most people accept grammar’s grammar recommendations of the Microsoft incorrectly.
We predict that the best innovations will still come out of well-trained human thoughts, with or without the help of supercomputer and chatbots; However our education system is more likely to be less focused on this realization. More, diplomas are participating in trophies. Honors classes are deemphasized because not everyone can succeed in them.
The continuing improvement of America and the development of its welfare is dependent on nurturing and provoking the best and most excellent mind. If our core population of educated thoughts continues to shrink, soon, the critical mass of development goes elsewhere. So, let’s break the blue books.
