In the editor: I can’t get the above line front of Los Angeles’ Partsa at Maskle Border Patrol Alohs (“‘Who are these people?’ Immigration agent masks challenge local police, sow of fear in LA, “ June 24). I am the daughter of immigrants and an immigrant to myself. My parents survived the Holocaust and a childhood to hate them to be Jewish. They went to the United States for opportunity to give them live free, to practice their religion without fear and give their children a good life.
I am happy that they are not here to see uniform recognition, armed and masked men carrying our streets. My parents are quickly reminded of their past. What I see in the picture is dictatorships and regime authorities. I have never seen democracy. I shook my head and asked, “Why?”

In the editor: Given the picture on the front page, one convinces that the immigration and customs keeps “worst the worst.” But did we see or hear about anyone that? I never feared that a gardener in my neighborhood hides an AK-47 in his lawn or that the men outside the house armed and ready to face the ice. And you know what? We have not seen evidence that there are such threats to exist.
If the federal authorities say they go to the worst, they should do that. But bring two or three guns to deal with a homeowner actually over.
