In the editor: Thanks, columnist steve lopez, for putting elder cards on the table (“The monthly tab for his in-home elder care: $ 18,000. He can cover it, but some more can do ?,” June 21).
It’s almost like a conspiracy: Elder Care out of reach for everything but 1% as Medicaid (that pays for More than half of the money spent on long-term care for disabled and aged every year) facing a lot of cuts. Not discuss that cases of alzheimer disease in the United States currently number 7.2 million. Usually, people should work longer and longer for full social security benefits.
But conspiracles are usually kept secret. This situation is not secret. It was built for several decades. The billionaries and their lackeys bet on no one cares, that old and disabled lives are good.
What wonderful things they do with money saved from the Medicaid cut!

In the editor: Most people are unable to take care of themselves alone 24 hours a day. In their last years, my parents lived in a helped live facility for half of what Reiko Kobata pays per person for home care. Sure, there are changes for an old man to move to help live. But I think benefits to living, including social opportunities and arranged medical teachings, make the step useful. And if Kobata works, he can use the economy of his house, like hiring it.
