Zoe Willoms article (MI6 teaches the first woman leader in the girl. How long is it? 16 June), after talking to my (new, younger, male) boss that I “mother” and “aggressive” and “aggressive” I am “to go to the job I’m in love with, but it’s so hard to try to change it from inside. Keep up with it.

While not wishing to doubt the sincerity of Marci Shore, who said “The lesson of 1933 is you get out sooner rather than later”, and her fellow professors, should they not be anticipating the lesson of 1938 and Move Further away from the US Than Canada (Why a professor of Pasmism left the US: ‘The lesson in 1933 – go out’, 16 June)?

I’m a retired teacher, and one morning I asked one of my students: “How are you this morning?”. “I’m fine,” he replied. “Don’t you mean ‘I’m good?'” Yes, I’m good. “The language develops, and changes, and the younger generation is always a step (at least) ahead (Letters, 20 June).
