If you can’t go to the streets, donations are a protest form too

In the editor: The Column of Gustavo Arellano asked us to rebel better (“Trump LA wants to burn. Let us rebel smarter,” June 9). As we take on the streets, we also make decomposition to finance organizations and families affected by the unexpected actions of the President. Their next steps are to secure legal advice, seek physical safety and should be held responsible from their government.

Over the last few years, I have been a part of a local Latino Giving Circle in Los Angeles that has raised nearly half a million dollars for immigrant-serving organizations since 2017. We are currently raising more money to support our immigrant communities in need at this moment.

While some of us may not march against government actions, or choose not for any reason, we can do all else, no matter how much the amount. That is also a act of protest and a call to act for reasonable society that still fails us.
