THe recently deteriorated conditions for young offenders have been overshadowed by the wider crisis in the prisons in England and Wales. But the account Guardian provided by three mothers of children currently in HMP Swinfen Hall, in Staffordshire, offering a disturbing view of high levels of violence that has been normal.
Their descriptions of “constant fear”, casual knifings and “drugs and knives anywhere” chilling. Two of the women say they agreed to the decision to live their sons. But reading their testimony, which puts those who know of a new Prison inspectorate surveyIt is impossible to believe that any way restored purpose is served. One of the women’s suggestion that his son became more violent than because of the conditions rising the independent review of David’s quitting the prisons Failed to reduce revision.
Prisoners in men are often dangerous places, with previous month Attack of prison officers By Hashem Abedi in HMP Frankland is just an example of the risks faced by staff as well as inmates.
