In the editor: As a banker, I wait for many years for the government to stop making pennies (“The US Mint keeps plans to kill penny,” May 22). But the real issue is that our money is not worth what is then, so we need a new plan that truly appears to lower the dollar.
Keep penny, but name this nickel, as pennies cost 4 cents to make. Make nickel dime and make it a little, because nickel is worth 14 cents to make. Change the dime to the quarter, the quarter to 50 cents and elimination of paper dollar, also a loser of money. Keep the dollar coin. Its life height (approx 30 years) as compared to the dollar bill (6.6 years) makes it a more effective cost. Start money paper on two dollar bill if required or just moves $ 5 bill.
President Trump can thank me for this better plan.
