After months of rumors, at the end of Fujifilm finally, officially announced half X, a compact camera designed with mimic film cameras and early 2000s Point-and-Shots. It takes vertical pictures and videos, helped by an optical viewfinder and vertical screen. I spent some time trying X half, and it was, as Fujifilm hoped, fun. This is the kind of thing you bring in a night out of friends, keeps useful in a wallet or pocket, so you can Get the moments without needing your phone.
However, its price can give you quitting. Here’s a small preview based on my little time with this little camera.
The hardware
This is positive small, even if a little larger than the smallest digital camera from the 2000s.
- 17.7 megapixels (3,648×4,864 or 7,296×4,864 for 2-in-1 images)
- 1-inch sensor
- 32mm f2.8 lens (35mm equivalent)
- Optical viewfinder
- Fujifilm film simulations
- 240 grams (8.5 ounces)
The specs don’t tell the whole story of this camera, but they’re still interesting. A 1-inch sensor is not felt by its size camera. the Sony XV-1 II to basically the same size and have one, even if it is more expensive. Most, like less expensive Panasonic ZS99have fewer sensors. X sensor is half the oriented vertically, like the back screen. It deals with the main design of the design at half of X. This is a camera for taking pictures you can easily and easily share social media. Images have a 3: 4 aspect aspects, such as video (1,080×1,440).
Only dials are exposure and aperture. Yes, that’s a film advance lever, and it actually has use here, beyond scores in style style.
One of the main tricks in half is the ability to take on one side side, which Fuji calls 2-in-1. You can see some examples later in this preview. Get a picture, “advance” the film using the retro film advance lever, and then take another picture. Both images are stored individually, but the camera also combines a third image where they include, separated by a line you choose. The same trick can with videos, and maybe more interesting, both pictures and videos.
X is half (right) next to x100vi.
As a fuji camera, x half have famous fuji film simulations. Image changed them in ways you can always get a lot of editing. More than a filter you can add to Instagram, this change, sometimes slow, many aspects of color and tone.
A small secondary screen on the back shows you the active simulation mode, as you look at a film roll inside the camera while watching the main screen, to see what they look like. Besides, there are “creative filters,” like “toy,” “high-key,” “Light leaks I haven’t tried all, but some of me used fun.
Vertical Screen and Optical Viewfinder. The secondary screen in the absence usually reflects active film simulation. It’s also a touch screen, so you can swipe by. It works as a secondary screen for some menus and settings.
There is also a mode called film camera, locking x half of the film simulation mode in your choice, for 36, 54 or 72 images. In this mode, no preview, and other options are limited. It is important to force you to use x half like a movie camera. I know some pictures like these types of limiting challenges. I’m not a fan, probably because I grew up in film limits, but I understand how much people enjoy.
The new X half of the app is not ready for us to check, but it must have some interesting ways to develop images made in film mode and make / adjust 2-in-1s.
X half uses the same battery like other Fuji cameras, have a favorite flash and moves Bluetooth. It can also be connected to one of The world’s printers in Fujifilm for inspy-film prints. The camera I tried to have a silver top, but x is also available to all black or in a top of charcoal.
Hands (good, hand) to
The side-by-side “2-in-1” format provides you with Juxtapose images for any number of causes of creation. Camera can do it (most of the following examples), with the future X half app, or if you get two things you want to edit the camera
This is a small camera to an adino. A palm-on-your-hand device that can fit into your pocket if not used. Walking around downtown la, I realized that x is half practical missing before I use it, hidden in my hand. If I see something interesting, even if I’m holding it after the last shot, ready to go to moments. Choosing different film simulations is too easy. All you have to do is swipe the secondary screen.
Using x is half awesome similar to using a GOPRO. Almost all can be accessed by swipes and tap on the back screen. Only dialogues are only for exposure and aperture. In person, I like dialing cameras, but it’s easy to navigate and maybe more for people who aren’t used to bigger cameras. A side switch makes the built-in flash.
Images on the side-side is a clever way of telling a story. For example, an image can be an establishment shot, another is a close. Or both would be versions of a theme, different angles and so on. Earlier, I said I didn’t enjoy the challenges like film-camera, but this kind of challenge I did. I can see some interesting image, and then see if I can find some matching or different image nearby. It’s a different way of approaching the picture, compared with my usual, which is (here the word again) is fun.
You’re there, Deckard?
Because only a few hours on camera, I can’t give a final image judge. My first impression is that it is good, with good color change. Low-light is not good but as acceptable. The images you see in this preview are all not answered.
One of the established filters allows you to choose a color and quit all others. Not a new concept, but it’s good to work here.
Price, existence and who it can be for
2-in-1 performed in Photoshop, if not charged from the camera.
Half half is not definite in a specified demographic. If you don’t understand why someone wants a little, vertical camera like this, no fear: you are not the demo. I described a friend’s camera most likely the demo, and he immediately got the idea and wanted. Is it possible to do about everything x X half your phone? Sure, but that’s true of any camera. The trick here is to skip the edit process, further the benefit of not your phone all the time. That, and the fact that half of x is appropriate.
However, a concern is the price. To $ 850, it can be better than the budget of people who are more enjoyable. As I tried it in LA Grand Central MarketOne of the shop owners is interested. After I described it to him, he was interested but asked, “Are you?” I told him the cost, and his frustrated answer was, “Oh, yes, dear.” Everything has been growing days, but only in very little money, someone gets Ricoh Gr III, our current choice Best Point of Travel Camerawith a greater sensor and can also be small.
However, neither GR iii or any other camera now has a significant “fun” cause of x half. Is that worth the premium? We can see when I try another after the launch of late June.
