As a registered dietitian, I dedicate my career to help families live healthier life through better nutrition. So I urge to see healthy America re-healthy the commission, focus on changing childhood chronic.
Developing children’s health means looking throughout the picture. We need to discuss basic childhood drivers: Access nutritious food, regular physical activity, safe surroundings, and adequate sleep. These are the reasons why science has already been established. They are equal meaning.
As a dietitian, my priority is nutritated. It’s not about what we have in our diet, but when families can access healthy options in the first place. Some of the first conversations in the wake around the pesticide’s residue concerned me, not because we should not ask, but because they mean our produce is not safe. It does not show reality. The opposite is always true.
Modern agriculture, including responsible use of pesticides, can help make healthy foods that are cheaper and available. Without it, we risk a higher grocery price, additional food insecurity, and evil results of health for children.
Of course, we need to guard and regulate the use of pesticides. We have already done – strong. Environmental protection agency and food management and drug managed in restricted safety patterns based on the newest science. If used according to the label, pesticide residues are well under thresholds that can be dangerous to human health.
If we do not ignore science and stresses fear, the consequences are true. Families can turn off the fresh produce. Food costs can rise. Incorrect info is easily spread, and children pay the price. A healthier country is one where every family can afford fruits, vegetables, full grains, lean protein and healthy fats. We cannot achieve that goal if we allow the wrong info to keep public understanding how food is growing.
I urge the Maha Commission to adopt a balance, evidence-based approach. Join registered dietitians, harvest scientists, farmers, and public health professionals inside and outside government.
We all want to be healthier children. That goal is very important to risk getting science. We can’t change America healthy when the Maha Commission takes this method, I am confident that we can solve health challenges and add positive health results for children in America.
